Half suburban half moorland, a diverse ride taking in Victorian architecture at Saltaire, with moorland, towpath and woodland singletrack sections, and a sewage works to boot.
Theres quite a bit of towpath involved, whatever your view we found it quite a pleasant change maintaining a decent speed compared with the perpetually uphill challenges the Yorkshire Dales offer.
No technical terrain in particular on this ride, but the climb to High Eldwick from Shipley Glen made us puff a bit. Overall, we loved it.
The Avenue – the tarmac private road past Esholt Sewage works, continue into Esholt Woods
Right onto main road (Apperley Bridge) short section, then right onto Leeds Liverpool Canal
Leeds Liverpool Canal to Saltaire and right into Saltaire Park
Continue through park, climb Prod Lane -Bridleway onto Shipley Glen
Past the Glen and right, climbing past caravan park
Descend onto Bingley Road, Left Hawksworth Road, Left Sconce Lane (Bridleway)
Left onto Otley road, turn left again (track) 100 meters before Dick Hudsons pub.
Farmland track & right onto Spring Lane, Left Saltaire road into Glen Woods.
Right turn (singletrack) just before Glen Pub. Return to Saltaire and Leeds Liverpool Canal)
Continue towards start point on Canal, through Shipley.
Left (over bridge) Buck Mill Lane onto Buck Lane
Short section Otley Road and right onto Esholt Lane back to start point

Food & stuff
Start/End point: The Commercial pub at Esholt Village, celebrated for being the set location for tv soap Emmerdale Farm (The Woolpack).
Midway: Dick Husdons at High Eldwick or The Old Glen House at Shipley Glen both have pretty good views from the beer gardens.
The Leeds Liverpool Canal section also has a wide selection of shops, pubs, and food nearby.
You are of course only a couple of miles from Bradford, legendary for (amongst other things) its fine Asian Cuisine.

Oops.. That’s what happens when you leave it a couple of months between riding a route and then scripting the directions. Sorry you got a bit lost, but hope you enjoyed the route on ther whole. I will have a go at re writing the route a little clearer. from: admin | Mon Jun 8
on the whole enjoyed the ride but if you know where your going it would be easy to bypass the route and take shortcuts, the directions were not very clear at all and would definately recommend checking the route out on an os map as we spent most of our time asking people for diections and trying to match the pictures ( which were a godsend as without them we surely would of got lost), if you enjoy this ride definately do the grassington route as this is similar length but much more enjoyable wit from: Lorraine & Mark | Tue Jun 2
i have a similar ride which takes you across ilkley moor via rombalds moor. its a few extra miles but good riding terrain. You can also join into crag wood in rawdon from: don | Wed May 13
